Tom Galbraith and Jan Hudson - members of the Fossil Creek bluegrass band - and I all went mostly as a promotional tool, as we'd bought a booth in the Exhibition Hall. It's hard to say early on what you get out of a booth, at least in terms of future gig engagements, but we certainly met a lot of interesting and fun people there!
IBMA - short for International Bluegrass Music Association, and nickname of their huge yearly "meeting"... Which, of course, in case you've never been there, means every bluegrasser who can be there comes to jam with fellow musicians - friends and strangers alike - see their new and/or favorite bluegrass acts perform, and to promote their band, festival, products, etc. As they say, 'see one thing, miss a hundred other things'; and it's true.

You might be asking yourself, "Why is Krista posting a picture of a Macaw and talking about pet shops on her violin-geared blog?". Well, that's a great question - and I'm glad you asked it. By the end of this entry, I hope I'll have answered that. As some of you might know, I played with a group called 64 To Grayson from the end of January until the end of March. It was on Sunday, March 2nd, that we were heading from South Portsmouth, Kentucky to Wheelersburg, Ohio (both along the Ohio River). We had a few hours to spare, so we stopped in at a pet store located on a small shopping square to cuddle puppies, stare at fish - you know, the usual things you do in a pet store. |
