For all you Wooster-area fans, be sure to pick up a copy of next week's (Monday, Aug. 11th) AND the week after's (Monday, Aug. 18th) Wooster Weekly News. Next week's issue will have a bit about my upcoming recital with Peter at St. Mary's church in Wooster (keep reading for more details). The week after that, I will be a feature story!
In other news... Last Saturday's destination? The Bryn Du Mansion in Granville, Ohio - an out-of-the-way sprawl that pretty much demands a map in and of itself (and a higher dress code, too), where I would play string quartet music with some local colleagues I've known for much of my life.
Last Sunday, Peter Douglas and I gave our second in a series of 'Four Seasons' recitals, entitled "The Joy Of Spring". The program consisted of: J.S. Bach: E Major Violin Concerto (all movements) Mozart: Rondo Concertante in B-flat Major - with cadenzas I wrote myself, yay! Ginastera: Piano Sonata (first movement) Schubert: Am Bach im Fruhling (By the Brook in Spring) Wieniawski: Legende Vivaldi: Concerto in E Major, "Spring" (all movements) Beethoven: Sonata No. 5 for Violin and Piano, "Spring" (first movement) There was a small but wonderful crowd gathered in the Church of the Epiphany in Euclid, and it was an amazing afternoon for everyone - myself and the audience alike. It was a reminder that it's not just flowers and more sunshine that make spring joyful, but music, too. As with every transition stage in life, there are a lot of questions, a lot of ideas, and a lot of wondering what's next. Lately I've been wondering if I should record another CD - and if so, what should be on it? Are my fans interested in hearing another album from me? In life, there is always constant change; naturally, I have grown musically and personally since my last album. But for an artist, there's always some amount of wondering if what you want to do next is something your current fans are interested in hearing and supporting. Yesterday I left my house at 7:30 am for an audition in Columbus, Ohio. The ensemble, ProMusica, had two openings for violins. Though I wasn't entirely convinced where the job would lead - if I did, indeed, win the audition - I decided last month when I found the posting that doing something was better than doing nothing, in any case...
Orchestra auditions, bluegrass groups, CD projects, recitals and collaborations... So much on my plate these days. But where is it all leading? Where am I going?
