As some of you might already know, myself and Mike Miller - luthier of my electric and baroque violins, and finger-style guitar player - got together a couple months ago to record some of our favorite tunes. What came about was this informal release - it will not be sold on my website, nor on iTunes or anywhere online. However, if you would like to purchase one, they are certainly available at any of my shows. But if you simply can't wait 'til then, you can email me: [email protected]. We are selling them for $10.00 each (plus $3.00 for shipping if ordered via email). What do all these albums have in common...? (Well, other than yours truly...)
They are now officially on sale on CDBaby, and will be on iTunes, Amazon, and many more, very soon! Click HERE to purchase any single song for $0.99, or album for $9.99, on CDBaby today!! (They do make great Christmas presents for the person in your life who has everything...) ; ) For all you Wooster-area fans, be sure to pick up a copy of next week's (Monday, Aug. 11th) AND the week after's (Monday, Aug. 18th) Wooster Weekly News. Next week's issue will have a bit about my upcoming recital with Peter at St. Mary's church in Wooster (keep reading for more details). The week after that, I will be a feature story!
In other news... As with every transition stage in life, there are a lot of questions, a lot of ideas, and a lot of wondering what's next. Lately I've been wondering if I should record another CD - and if so, what should be on it? Are my fans interested in hearing another album from me? In life, there is always constant change; naturally, I have grown musically and personally since my last album. But for an artist, there's always some amount of wondering if what you want to do next is something your current fans are interested in hearing and supporting. Orchestra auditions, bluegrass groups, CD projects, recitals and collaborations... So much on my plate these days. But where is it all leading? Where am I going?
As most of you probably aren't aware, I began collaborating with acoustic guitarist Terry Rice last fall on his - now our - CD. Today we went into the studio and I recorded my part for a song, entitled "Ascension". The whole CD is really genre-unclassifiable, and has really pushed me in my improvisational abilities.
Yesterday he and I sat down in his basement, and we went over the song a few times so he could hear what I'd come up with. He was blown away. I was just glad that he liked it at all, considering how out of my element I feel doing this project. Each new song is a different challenge, forcing me to think of music in ways I haven't understood it before. Even though there are certainly times when I get frustrated because I can't come up with anything I really like, I'm very grateful I get to be featured on such a unique album. I'm not sure what the best reward will be - the new-found improvisational abilities I'll find myself possessing, or the feeling of knowing I collaborated with another great musician to produce something amazing. |
