Last Sunday, July 13th, Perry and I drove up to Hale Farm & Village for their 38th Annual Music in the Valley bluegrass jam. There weren't a whole lot of people there, but it was still a good time and a beautiful day!
I arrived at a little after 9:30 am in a little historical settlement out in the middle of nowhere - though the postmark says Sauder Village - Archbold, Ohio, on Saturday, July 12. After making my way to Founder's Hall, where their fiddle contest has been held as long as I can remember (which actually turns out to be a long time, since I started going to this before I was a teenager), I soon found Sue Link - Marketing & Events Coordinater at Sauder, who oversees the fiddle contest, coordinates the judges, and makes sure everything is running smoothly. She walked me through the judging procedures, and soon my Fossil Creek band members joined me backstage. It was time to warm up and sound-check.
Special thanks to Marilyn Gruss, who runs this contest every year, and to Mr. Dunlap, for the photos directly below.
The weekend before last, I found myself in Madrid, NY, with The Fossil Creek Band playing three shows at the Madrid Bluegrass River Festival. What beautiful country it is there! |
