I hope you'll forgive me for the tardiness of this and the next few posts - what a busy month or so this has been! As most of you probably already know, Perry had a mild heart attack a few weeks ago, and had to have open heart surgery (triple-bypass) because of all the blockage in his arteries. I'm so grateful, thank the Lord, that he is recovering quickly and says he feels better than he has in three years.

I was amazed when I woke up from my morning car-ride nap and found our car in a long line to get in to the Shaker Woods Festival last Saturday, the 16th of August. So many people had come to this out-of-the-way festival to enjoy food, craft vendors, and great entertainment!
If playing at a picturesque vineyard isn't a happy enough thought, I don't know what is. Last Sunday, I joined Fossil Creek up in Grand Rapids, Ohio, to play a show for a relatively small but happy crowd. (Well, they Were sampling wine, too, after all...) ; )
For all you Wooster-area fans, be sure to pick up a copy of next week's (Monday, Aug. 11th) AND the week after's (Monday, Aug. 18th) Wooster Weekly News. Next week's issue will have a bit about my upcoming recital with Peter at St. Mary's church in Wooster (keep reading for more details). The week after that, I will be a feature story!
In other news... Talk about busy! My birthday was July 25th and I'm just now blogging about it - I know, I know... but let me do my best to play catch-up here.
Last Sunday, July 13th, Perry and I drove up to Hale Farm & Village for their 38th Annual Music in the Valley bluegrass jam. There weren't a whole lot of people there, but it was still a good time and a beautiful day!
I arrived at a little after 9:30 am in a little historical settlement out in the middle of nowhere - though the postmark says Sauder Village - Archbold, Ohio, on Saturday, July 12. After making my way to Founder's Hall, where their fiddle contest has been held as long as I can remember (which actually turns out to be a long time, since I started going to this before I was a teenager), I soon found Sue Link - Marketing & Events Coordinater at Sauder, who oversees the fiddle contest, coordinates the judges, and makes sure everything is running smoothly. She walked me through the judging procedures, and soon my Fossil Creek band members joined me backstage. It was time to warm up and sound-check.
Special thanks to Marilyn Gruss, who runs this contest every year, and to Mr. Dunlap, for the photos directly below.
