The fifth and final day of my mini-tour with the Fossil Creek Band began bright and early on Sunday morning with a gospel show at the WBRF radio station in Galax, Virginia. The first adventure of Thursday came in the form of a boat ride on Moses Creek, between the mainland of Florida and the island where St. Augustine sits, from Jan's brother Bob. We didn't see any alligators, but we did spot some cormorants and a few dolphins!
When I touched down at the airport in Jacksonville, Florida, last Tuesday afternoon for my five-day mini-tour with Fossil Creek, I was both exhausted from the day's flights and excited to be spending days in a condo right on the beach! As soon as I put my bags down in my room at Sea Haven Resort in St. Augustine and returned from a quick trip to the grocery store, Jerry - our bass player - and I went right out onto the beach, wading into the water, feet in the sand. I even found a cute little hermit crab! (Don't worry, I didn't take him home!) ; ) The music was jammin' last night at the Conn-Weissenberger American Legion Hall in Toledo, Ohio, last night when bands from around the area played a healthy set in special honor of the longest-running bluegrass jam in Ohio - 40 years now! One of its founding members, Chester, was also honored for his 90th birthday, too, with a sheet cake and much merry-music-making. As some of you might already know, myself and Mike Miller - luthier of my electric and baroque violins, and finger-style guitar player - got together a couple months ago to record some of our favorite tunes. What came about was this informal release - it will not be sold on my website, nor on iTunes or anywhere online. However, if you would like to purchase one, they are certainly available at any of my shows. But if you simply can't wait 'til then, you can email me: [email protected]. We are selling them for $10.00 each (plus $3.00 for shipping if ordered via email). What do all these albums have in common...? (Well, other than yours truly...)
They are now officially on sale on CDBaby, and will be on iTunes, Amazon, and many more, very soon! Click HERE to purchase any single song for $0.99, or album for $9.99, on CDBaby today!! (They do make great Christmas presents for the person in your life who has everything...) ; ) IBMA - short for International Bluegrass Music Association, and nickname of their huge yearly "meeting"... Which, of course, in case you've never been there, means every bluegrasser who can be there comes to jam with fellow musicians - friends and strangers alike - see their new and/or favorite bluegrass acts perform, and to promote their band, festival, products, etc. As they say, 'see one thing, miss a hundred other things'; and it's true. Tom Galbraith and Jan Hudson - members of the Fossil Creek bluegrass band - and I all went mostly as a promotional tool, as we'd bought a booth in the Exhibition Hall. It's hard to say early on what you get out of a booth, at least in terms of future gig engagements, but we certainly met a lot of interesting and fun people there! |
